Rob recently was the Managing Partner of Smart Infrastructure Managers (now part of Guardian Smart Infrastructure). Prior to that, Rob was Executive Vice President Private Investments for Alberta Investment Management Corporation, where he managed over $26 billion in assets, including $7 billion in infrastructure and timber assets, helping to turn AIMCo into one of the largest global institutional infrastructure investors, with over $100 billion in total assets under management. At AIMCo, Rob managed a team of over 60 investment professionals. Prior to AIMCo, Rob was an investment banker for 20 years working out of London, New York and Toronto. He has an MBA from the University of Toronto, and a bachelor’s degree in Finance & Economics from McGill University.

Kevin Roseke | Managing Director and Co-Founder

Kevin was a Founder and Partner of Smart Instructure Managers (now part of Guardian Smart Infrastructure). Prior to SIM, he was a Director of Infrastructure Investments for AIMCo and headed its London office. Kevin was responsible for AIMCo’s infrastructure investment activities across Europe, both in sourcing new transactions and managing the existing portfolio of over C$2.5 billion. He served for nearly ten years in AIMCo’s head office, joining as an intern in May 2004 within the investment division of Alberta Finance, and then becoming one of the first members of the infrastructure investment team in August 2005. He relocated to London in January 2014 to start AIMCo’s first international office. Kevin led AIMCo’s client investments into Porterbrook, one of the UK’s largest train leasing businesses; London City Airport, the firm’s first airport investment, and a majority stake in Eolia Renewables, one of the largest independent renewable generators in Spain. He served on the board of these companies, including as Chairman of Eolia, and was responsible for asset management. In addition, he held corporate responsibilities in managing AIMCo’s London office. On behalf of AIMCo’s clients, Kevin has previously served on the boards of Broadcast Australia, Thames Water, Grupo Saesa, and Autopista Central.

Kevin is a Charterholder of the CFA Institute. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce with Distinction from the University of Alberta and is a graduate of the Director Education Program developed by the Institute of Corporate Directors

Christopher Lee | Managing Director and Co-Founder

Chris was recently a Partner with Smart Infrastructure Managers (now part of Guardian Smart Infrastructure). Chris was the Founder and former Managing Partner of Highstar Capital, an infrastructure investment firm that he founded in 2000 and sold to Oaktree Capital in 2014. Through four funds, Highstar managed $7.8 billion in assets. Chris sourced, procured, structured and financed some of the most successful P3 projects in the U.S. (including the award-winning Seagirt Marine Terminal in the Port of Baltimore and Luis Munoz San Juan Puerto Rico Airport projects). More recently, Chris has advised on the formation of a digital private equity fund with Cisco. Chris and Rob worked together in a portfolio manager/LP/co-investor capacity at Highstar and AIMCo respectively. Chris has a BA in History from The Johns Hopkins University, where he served as a trustee and member of the Finance Committee for six years, including as Chair of the Debt Committee – where he oversaw a successful refinancing of substantially all of the University’s long-term obligations, significantly enhancing the average life and improving the cost of financing.

Jonathan Stone | Managing Director

Jonathan was recently a Partner at Instar Asset Management, where he played a pivotal role in origination, deal execution and asset management of infrastructure investments; primary investments include Jet Infrastructure and Steel Reef Infrastructure. Jonathan has 25+ years of experience in the infrastructure industry with a focus on transportation, energy and utilities, with deep experience across construction, corporate and project finance, public-private partnerships (“PPP”) and M&A. Before Instar, Jonathan was Head of EMEA Infrastructure and Energy at Scotiabank in London, where he was instrumental in growing the business providing M&A advisory, capital markets and lending services to Infrastructure investors. Selected transactions include Arqiva, Alpha Trains, Forth Ports, Heathrow, and Edinburgh Airport. He previously worked at both Plenary Group and CIT in Toronto with a focus on the PPP market.

Jonathan has a Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Civil) from McGill University, an MBA from Cambridge University, and is a CFA® Charterholder.

Laura Ryan | Chief Financial Officer/Chief Compliance Officer

Laura has over 15 years’ experience in the financial services sector. Before Guardian Smart Infrastructure (GSIM), Laura worked in the Finance Group for Guardian Capital Group Limited (Guardian) with a primary focus on acquisitions, investor relations and corporate development. Prior to Guardian, Laura worked for 12 years in the audit practice at KPMG LLP covering pension funds, financial institutions, and real estate clients. Laura is responsible for GSIM’s dedicated compliance process.

Laura is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CA) and has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Dalhousie University.

Pieter Quartero | Principal

Pieter joined GSIM in 2022 with the founding partners, having joined Smart Infrastructure Managers (now part of Guardian Smart Infrastructure) in 2020, to assist with investment due diligence and deal screening. Prior to this role, Pieter worked closely with Rob Mah and Kevin Roseke at AIMCo since 2015 as an Associate in the Infrastructure Group, where he investigated and screened numerous investment opportunities in a wide variety of infrastructure sub-sectors including telecommunications, fibre, energy storage, ports, toll roads, pipelines, renewable energy, and utilities. Pieter’s investment experience covers a global basis, with transactions in the US, UK, Europe, and South America. Before AIMCo, Pieter worked as an investment banker at BMO Capital Markets in Calgary, Alberta, from 2010 to 2014. While at BMO he worked on numerous financing and M&A engagements, largely in the energy infrastructure space.

Pieter holds degrees in Political Science from the University of Alberta and in Finance and Economics from the University of Calgary.
